Mudbrick Vineyard
Meet Robyn and Nicholas Jones. They purchased Mudbrick in 1992 when Nicholas was 28 and Robyn was 27 years old.
They still own and operate the property today:
The Mudbrick Restaurant sits on the Mudbrick ridge overlooking the sparkling waters of the Hauraki Gulf and back to Auckland city. Its a romantic setting whether you are coming for lunch, with the stunning views over the Hauraki Gulf, or dinner. I love candles and candlelight, and I believe that enjoying the finer things in life is a must and a need rather than a want and a shouldn’t! I notice that people gather at Mudbrick to celebrate special occasions. I have noticed that a special occasion involves loved ones, and the event does not necessarily have to be a “birthday” or anything other than the opportunity to gather together. A restaurant is somewhere where people gather together to share the good times and each others company. When travelling, people want to happen upon a beautiful environment because finally they have a chance to relax and enjoy life. This is what we have created for you at Mudbrick.
If its sunny, the roof and doors can peel back and you will feel as if you are in a conservatory over looking the sea. If it’s winter, we built a huge real wood burning fireplace…we don’t do things by halves at Mudbrick: if we are going to build a fireplace its going to be a large and a beautiful one. Its all about making you feel special when you arrive, and making the environment one that will be beautiful and comfortable. We have considered both summer and winter, so no matter what season you visit, it will be lovely. I do love the seasons on this earth, don’t you? I like winter, I like what it has to offer, I like red wine, comfort desserts, fires and candlelight, none of which really suits summer. I like summer, I like walm balmy nights, sitting alfresco, light food, crisp wines..its such a gift to have such variety in life. We hope that you will want to visit and sample both of our restaurants, each has a very different personality. Mudbrick Restaurant is headed by Matthias Schmitt. He has worked with us for 8 years and provides a gastronomical experience that you’ll enjoy so much in this beautiful vineyard by the sea.
